Hockey Director

 

Ryan Carter

Ryan played college hockey at Norwich University (DIII) and at Trinity College School in Ontario, Canada.  He is a USA Hockey Level 5 Master Coach.  Ryan is an Associate Coach in Chief as well as a Coaching Education Program Instructor for the Atlantic District of USA Hockey.  He is the head coach of the St. Joseph-Metuchen High School team and has been coaching youth hockey for over fifteen years.

 

Assistant Hockey Director

 

Adam Shemansky

Adam attended Notre Dame High School where he finished as the 6th all-time leading scorer in New Jersey High School Hockey history with 278 points. Adam went on to play four years of Division I college hockey at the University of Maine. Adam has been coaching with Princeton Youth for three seasons and his teams have reached the NJYHL playoffs in all three seasons, including two trips to the Atlantic District championships. Adam is also an assistant coach at Princeton Day School.

 

Senior Skills Instructor

 

Ian Mc Nally

Ian hails from Guelph, Ontario where he played youth and Jr. hockey before arriving in New Jersey to play with Princeton University.  He has been involved with PYHA as a coach across all age groups since 2005.  He also coaches at The Hun School where he lives wife his wife Megan and four children.

 

 

6U/8U Teams

 

We anticipate fielding four U8 (Mite) teams.  These teams will be separated by skill level during the tryouts as determined by coaching directors Ryan Carter and Ian McNally.  Coaches will be assigned to each team following the tryout based on player placement.

10U Teams

 

We anticipate fielding three U10 (Squirt) teams.  These teams will be separated by skill level during the tryouts as determined by coaching directors Ryan Carter and Ian McNally.  Coaches will be assigned to each team following the tryout based on player placement.

12U A

Paul Vogel:

Paul has previously coached with PYHA at the Mite, Squirt and Peewee levels.  He played youth hockey for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.  Played club hockey at University of Pennsylvania. 

12U B

Garth Behrje:

He grew up in Michigan and began skating in 1973.  Garth started playing ice hockey at the age of 4 in the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association in Southwest Michigan. In High School he played Varsity & lettered every year freshman thru senior year 1983 -1987. He captained his High School team ‘the Portage Central Mustangs’ which was a perennial state championship contender. The Mustangs played twice 1983 and 1986 in the final 4 Class ‘A’ state High School championships in Flint Michigan.   He received Michigan High School All State Class ‘A’ honors at the center position his senior year.  Garth walked onto the Ice Hockey Team at the University of Notre Dame his sophomore year.  His career was cut short by a serious injury early that season.    Garth has coached since 2004 (Mites to Midgets) in New Jersey.  His hockey philosophy is:  Hard Work, Discipline, and FUN!!!

Joe Lanza:

Coach Lanza will return for his second season as a head coach. He is the Associate Coach in Chief for the NJYHL, a Level 4 certified coach with USA Hockey and a CEP Instructor for the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program in the Atlantic District. Coach Lanza has been involved in youth hockey for the majority of his life both a player and student of the game as a Coach for over twenty years.  Joe has coached from mites to Midgets both at the Tier I and Tier II levels. He has a true passion for coaching hockey and developing his hockey players, preparing them for the next step in their games and lives. Coach Lanza takes a no nonsense approach with the entire team while making it a fun and rewarding atmosphere and experience . Joe is the type of Coach that will challenge your player to mature and develop both on and off the ice.

14U B

Noah Antonoff:

Noah has been a coach with PYHA for the last 4 years.  He played college hockey at William Paterson University (ACHA D2) and is a USA Hockey Level 4 coach.  He has coached high school hockey at Bernards High School and all ages of youth hockey. When not on the ice, Noah is an adaptive physical education teacher in a nearby school district.

Nathaniel Welsh:

Nathaniel graduated from St Joseph High School in 2013, finishing as  the school's 2nd all-time leading scorer with 154 points and was named the Home News Tribune player of the year in 2013. He also captained the 2013 PYHA 18UAA team that advanced to USA Hockey Nationals. Most recently, Nathaniel played 3 years for Cornell University on their ACHA D1 team, acting as captain for that team the past 2 years.
